How Bayaaya Coffee is Advancing Through MARKUP II Coaching

As part of our ongoing commitment to quality and growth, Bayaaya Specialty Coffee is proud to participate in the Market Access Upgrade Programme (MARKUP II), funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC).

This week, one of our team members is undergoing an intensive coaching and training session led by ITC expert Mr. M. Frederic, focusing on a crucial, yet often overlooked, element of specialty coffee production—packaging.

Why Packaging Matters

Packaging is not just about aesthetics. It plays a vital role in:

  • Preserving coffee quality and freshness,
  • Attracting buyers in competitive markets,
  • Complying with export and retail standards, and
  • Telling the story behind every bean.

What We’re Learning

The first phase of this coaching series centers on awareness raising, with key focus areas including:

  • The importance and impact of a strong packaging system,
  • Global packaging trends in specialty coffee,
  • Different materials used for packaging,
  • Machines that support efficient and hygienic packing,
  • Effective labeling practices and regulatory compliance.

At Bayaaya, we believe this training will be a catalyst in refining our processes and positioning us for greater visibility, sustainability, and export readiness.

We extend our gratitude to the European Union and the ITC for supporting this initiative and investing in the capacity of youth and women-led coffee enterprises in Uganda.

Stay tuned as we continue to learn, grow, and elevate Bayaaya Coffee to international standards—one pack at a time.
